LITTLE COMPANY OF MARY SISTERS – USA -THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION REGION TRANSITIONS INTO A COMMUNITY IN DIRECT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CONGREGATIONAL LEADER WITH AN APPOINTMENT OF A LAY COORDINATOR
When the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary were missioned to Chicago in 1893 with Venerable Mary Potter’s blessing they began as a Community. Through the years they became a Province and then a Region. We now are at a place where we go back to the beginning. The Sisters’ courageous preparation and continued dedication to becoming ready for this transition have brought us to a point of significant change.
As we move into a new time for our Congregation, we are keenly aware of the changes which challenge us. The Little Company of Sisters have always been able to adapt and adjust to the realities before us. Many Congregations are experiencing the same issues of numbers of Sisters dwindling. We, in the United States are becoming ready to come to fulfillment. We are six Sisters remaining in the US and we are preparing with the support of the Congregational Leadership Team to move towards this reality.
During this preparation, we have worked closely with our lay members to help us journey through these final years together. We have seen for many decades the strength our lay staff has brought to our ministries. We have identified many of those individuals to help us on this journey.
It is with gratitude and hope that we announce the following appointment within our Congregation. Effective August 15, 2026, Laura Guest has been appointed as Lay Coordinator for the Little Company of Mary Sisters-USA. Laura has been with the Sisters for 18 years. She understands the significance of this position and respects the very important work that lies ahead of her. Laura, along with a supportive staff, including Jocelyn Mesina, Community Treasurer and Susan Coyle, Chief Health Care officer, will continue to work with the Sisters to live out their charism of Venerable Mary Potter.
We give thanks for Laura’s faithful service and willingness to accept this new responsibility. We pray that God will bless and guide her and the entire staff with wisdom, strength, and grace in this ministry.
